A new idea about Lurantis

Posted by wakeangel2001 - April 17th, 2023

I caught a shiny Lurantis in Pokemon Scarlet the other day, and it got me thinking about why they look so much like bugs despite being a pure grass pokemon. The pokedex entry says they pretend to be bug pokemon and lure actual bugs in with their sweet scent, then taking them down with their sickles. This description makes you think of a carnivorous plant like a venus fly trap, but those things don't LOOK like bugs (if anything it makes me think of an orchid mantis, but that's a bug that pretends to be a flower.) There IS a plant out there in the real world that looks like a bug, the Copper Beard Orchid, whose flowers resemble female scolid wasps. The reason they look like that is to attract male wasps that try to mate with the flower, getting covered with its pollen in the process, you see where I'm going with this don't you? My new head canon is that Lurantis look the way they do to attract and seduce scythers to use them as pollinators for their kind (this is why all Lurantis look so feminine, even the males.)

Hey, if a real life flower evolved to look like an insect Real Doll it isn't the most far fetched thing pokemon can base a monster on.
